You can take part in the decisions that shape the Wellington region by getting involved in the local authority elections.

Local authority elections are held on the second Saturday in October every three years.

The last election was held on Saturday 8 October 2022.

The city and district councils (territorial authorities) within the Wellington Region undertake the local elections on behalf of Greater Wellington Regional Council. In addition to their own election (Mayor, Council, Community Board), each territorial authority is responsible for compiling and certifying the electoral rolls, issuing the voting papers, and processing and counting Wellington Regional Council votes.

The local authority elections are conducted under the provisions of the Local Electoral Act 2001, the Local Electoral Regulations 2001 and the Local Government Act 2002.

Want to vote on the future of the Wellington region, then you need to be enrolled.

At Greater Wellington we deal with the issues that impact people’s lives every day.

A chance to say who you want to represent you when making decisions for our region.
