Greater Wellington Regional Council has established nine committees and one subcommittee. The  terms of reference (PDF 406 KB)  for the committees and subcommittee set out the responsibilities that have been delegated by the Council.

At the start of each new triennium the Council may elect to change the committee structure. Most committees are disestablished until the incoming Council confirms the new committee structure.

Joint Committees

Under the Local Government Act 2002 a local authority may establish a joint committee. A Joint Committee is deemed to be both a committee of the local authority and a committee of the other local authorities or public bodies. A Joint Committee will usually be established to oversee region-wide activities such as emergency management. The  terms of reference (PDF 844 KB)  set out the joint committees’ responsibilities.
